web browser shortcuts Georgetown TXDo you ever feel as if there just isn’t enough time in a day or that time moving too fast for you to accomplish your goals? Throughout your busy workday, every moment counts, and to make the most of our day, we've put together our top 5  shortcuts to make your work life easier and hopefully save you some precious time.

  1. Clickety-Click Lickety-Split - Let's say you're working along, reading an article when a link shows up to a site or another article you may want to visit. Instead of clicking the link and losing your place, or copying the URL, opening a new tab, and pasting the link into a new tab, you can open the link in a new window by simply hovering over the desired link with your mouse cursor and clicking down on the scroll wheel of your mouse. This opens the link in a new tab without ever leaving your current browsing page.
  2. Scroll-Baller Make You Holler - Did you know that you can use your space bar to quickly scroll up and down the webpage you're reading? Instead of using the scroll ball on your mouse or the arrow keys on your keyboard, just tap the space bar when you are in your browser window and that will allow you to go down the page in perfect increments for quick and easy reading. If you want to go back up the page, just hold the shift key and then tap the space bar.
  3. Narrow The Searching Field - Using quotation marks in your search engine query can quickly weed out unnecessary results and help you find exactly what you're looking for in record time. By adding quotation marks around a single word or specific words in your search, it tells Google to match that word or words precisely. This strategy works for words, locations, dates, other phrases, and even entire domain names.
  4. Form Fill on the Fly -  If you're filling out a form and want to quickly work your way through it, the tab key is your best friend. Each time you've completed a field and want to move on to the next one, just hit the tab key and you'll be brought to the next available destination. If you need to go back for any reason, hold the shift key down and then hit tab and you'll be brought back to the previous entry. With tax season just around the corner, this tip should make filling in all those little boxes a tad easier, albeit no less painful.
  5. You Gotta Keep 'Em Separated - How many applications and programs do you utilize simultaneously on a daily basis? We're all multi-taskers in this technological age and while the taskbar is one way to switch between open programs, it’s not the only way. To rotate through applications and browser windows with ease, hold down the Alt key on your keyboard and then you can use the Tab button to quickly select the one you want. If the app you want to use is already opened, you can also use the mouse instead of the Tab key to select your desired program.

It can be challenging to stay productive, but I hope you can incorporate these top tips into your daily routine to help your work and internet browsing be more efficient. One thing that's never productive is downtime. To see how much downtime could cost your business and how quickly you could be up and running again in the event of a disaster, use our calculator HERE.
